Crotonic acid, onoclinic crystals, is a member of
unsaturated carboxylic acid; soluble in water (the solution is a weak
acid); melting at 71 C; boiling at 185 C. It reacts violently with bases,
oxidants, and reducing agents. Crotonic acid and its derivatives are used
in the preparation of copolymers, internal plasticizers, perfumes,
paints, coatings, adhesives, textile treatment agents, Fungicides,
Insecticides and pharmaceuticals.
